Trial Begins in Braunschweig. Accused of Abusing People in Harz Care Home. Prosecutors Allege Motive of Profit. The trial of four accused individuals began at the Braunschweig Landgericht. The prosecution alleges that the accused created a 'regime of control, fear, and suffering' in a care home in the Harz region. The accused are alleged to have drugged and locked up residents in the home over several years. The motive, according to the prosecution, is profit. The charges include 17 counts against three accused individuals: a 60-year-old man and a 63-year-old woman as operators, and a 51-year-old woman as a leader. In 14 cases, a 59-year-old accused individual is alleged to have provided assistance as a responsible care service manager. The accused are also charged with mistreatment of protected individuals, dangerous bodily harm, deprivation of liberty in a particularly serious case, and organized crime. According to the indictment, reports on the health status were falsified and doctors were deceived. Residents were systematically sedated, particularly with sedative medications. The accusation: So, from the perspective of the accused, a trouble-free care operation was to be ensured. Very 'lively' people were locked up behind bars. Such conditions prevailed from October 2017 to September 2020 in the facility with 68 places. More than 50 hearing dates are scheduled for the trial until the end of January 2027. Until the final conclusion of the proceedings, the presumption of innocence applies.
